Guidelines

When submitting information, please always include a photo or image to accompany your content.

Submissions must be received by 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday to make it into that week's Messenger and Print Bulletin. Information can be added to the website at any time.

Space is very limited in the Messenger and Print Bulletin and submissions will be edited for length. News articles and calendar events on the website can be any length.

If asking people to contact a specific person, please include their email address (even if they are in Breeze).

If sharing information about an event, always include the exact date and time.

We publish information in three key places:

Sunday Print Bulletin

These are paper inserts included with the Sunday bulletin each week. Space is very limited in the Sunday Print Bulletin and submissions will be edited for length. Approximately 50 words is a good target length.

Not everything in the weekly Messenger will be included in the Sunday Print Bulletin. You can find the most recent week's Print Bulletin linked here.

The Messenger - Thursday Email Newsletter

Every Thursday morning, the Messenger goes out via email newsletter to everyone at St. Mark's who is subscribed. The Messenger includes:

Calendar Events - The six most relevant upcoming St. Mark's events are featured at the top of the Messenger. These will include very abbreviated descriptions of the event (20-30 words) and a link to the calendar event page on our website, which can be any length.

News Items - These are short "blurbs" that report on events that have taken place, announce good news, or otherwise share important and interesting information that is not a calendar event. They must include a photo or image. Ideal length is 40-60 words, and they can link to a news item on our website, which can be any length.

Get Involved - These are "calls to action" inviting St. Mark's members to donate, volunteer, or otherwise directly contribute to an event, donation drive, or other action. Submissions must include a photo or image. Ideal length is 50-75 words, and they can include a link for more information.

Community Notes - This is at the bottom of the Messenger and is the place for information about events that are not being hosted or endorsed by St. Mark's as well as "classifieds" from parish members.

Website

You are on the St. Mark's website right now! Publishing information on our website lets us share it widely, and gives us a place to link to from the Messenger to include information excluded by length limits.

Calendar Events - All events featured in the Print Bulletin and/or Email Messenger also get an item on our website calendar, which you can see here. Text on a calendar event can be any length. Calendar events must include a photo.

News Articles - All our news articles are linked here. We strongly encourage St. Mark's members to share information about events they host and organize at St. Mark's as well as other relevant announcements. These have no length requirement and can include photos as well!

If you have information that would make a good news article but don't want to write it yourself, share any photos, details, "fun facts," and other info with Lily and she will help you create an article.

News articles are often included in the Messenger in an abbreviated format with a link to the longer article.

Please note that while the Messenger and Print Bulletin are more private, content published on our website is public and can be scraped or indexed by search engines and bots. We may decline to publish photos of minors and personal contact information or ask for written permission.
