Speaker Series Lift-Off!

Dr. Lerone Martin and the Becoming Beloved Community Task Force (BBC) brought out some 125 people, both parishioners and the community-at-large, to St. Mark’s on a rainy night and lit a fire in us! MANY THANKS to all who worked so hard to make it a rousing success. The opening of the Community, Faith, and Racial Justice Speaker Series was a seminal event, with the eminent Dr. Martin’s powerful address on “Soul Force: Martin Luther King, Jr., the Triple Evils, and American Democracy” and a lively and thoughtful question-and-answer session. Our thanks to him, and to the hard work of the full BBC team and all hands who helped make this evening happen and unfold so smoothly – paving the way for more engagement around pressing themes of white Christian nationalism and its connection with racial attitudes and actions that threaten people of color and so many others.

Mark your calendars for the next in the series on May 8, with The Rev. Dr. Pamela Cooper-White addressing “Confronting Christian Nationalism.”

St. Mark’s is especially grateful for the august group of co-sponsors for this event, also thanks to the hard work of the BBC – and reflecting the social justice ethos of the greater faith community in our area:
