rebecca maggi retirement

Dear Friends,

Our Choir Director, Rebecca Maggi, who first served St. Mark’s beginning in 1987 as a soprano section leader, will be moving to New Hampshire this Saturday. The sale of her home in San Mateo, at first delayed by the Covid-19 pandemic, subsequently sold very quickly and she and Sergio were then able to finalize the purchase of a home in New Hampshire right across the street from their daughter Mirella and family, including their new grandchild! What a wonderful way to begin retirement.

It is highly unfortunate that we cannot say goodbye to Rebecca as a gathered community. We will do our best to communicate our gratitude by letter and email. You are all invited to do so by sending letters to the parish office or emailing a message of thanksgiving and remembrance. You are also invited to send a contribution (designated “For Rebecca’s Farewell Gift”) made out to St. Mark’s. Emails can be sent to “leeanne@saint-marks.com”

What a gift Rebecca has been to this community! She has directed the choir since 1991 so beautifully and with such artistic acuity and passion that we all have become spoiled by her presence. I have had the pleasure of working with her for most of that time and I am so grateful, not only for her singing and directing talent but also for her faithful care and love for this community. This church, back in the day, went through some hard times and I really believe the spirited music and the example of the choir singing through challenging times helped to heal the heart and soul of the community. Rebecca’s Methodist minister father is smiling down on her legacy. We will miss her talent, her devotion and her heart and soul. On behalf of all who have sat in the sacred pews in this place, member or visitor, celebrating or mourning, and on behalf of those who now stream live and hear her voice, as we will this Sunday, I say thank you Rebecca and, in true Texas style, thank you Jesus. We wish you the very best in the days ahead for you and yours Rebecca. Please come back and visit when we can all breathe easier and sing our hearts out. That day will come.

In Gratitude,
Matt
