A note from our interim rector:
During my tenure as Interim Rector, the two large Silver Gum Eucalyptus trees were identified in several conversations among parishioners and community members as hazardous. Some of you cited previous limbs that have fallen as well as local incidents and fire concerns.
In dialogue with the urban forestry and planning departments of the City of Palo Alto, I began exploring options for mitigating these risks and ultimately chose removal and replacement as the best way forward. A review by a local, well-respected arborist found, and the city concurred, that these pose a moderate risk to life and property.
We commenced with the removal beginning Friday, April 11 and continuing across two Saturdays, April 12 and 19, with planting and landscaping on Monday, April 21 through that week. As part of this work, flowers were added to our All Souls Garden. Thank you to all the workers and volunteers who helped make this happen!
We will be planting ten Western Redbud trees across our campus, specifically seven trees near the area where the Eucalyptus have been. In addition to the commitment of success for these new trees, we also hope to make a net addition to the canopy by allowing previously planted trees to emerge with more sun creating a beautiful sanctuary for our All Souls Garden.
