Preparation for the Service
- Arrive 20 minutes before the service. Put on a name tag and your smile.
- Make sure the Visitors Book is open and a pen available on Welcome Table.
- Make sure blank nametags and Sharpies are there also. Extras are in one of the drawers in the Greeters’ cabinets by the entrance doors.
- Children’s clip boards with coloring sheets and crayons are on the wooden table
- Bulletins and the offertory plate will be on a small table in the entry way. Bulletins are also a on top of the Greeters’ cabinets.
- Check that 4-5 bulletins are on credenza in Old Narthex, that the toys are neat, and that there are a few masks on the pew reserved for mask wearers at the back of the church.
Welcome and Seating
- Greeters should hand out bulletins and gently remind members to wear their nametags.
Be alert for newcomers. (Remember your name tag!) - Two Greeters take positions at the entry area.
- For young people – you may invite them to see Lily and/or, if desired, take a clip board
(on wooden table). Lily prepares the clip boards for each Sunday.
During the Service
- After the service starts, Greeters continue to pass out bulletins to late arrivals.
- Suggest late-comers wait to enter in between readings, prayers, and sermon (during hymns OK). Late-comers may also prefer to be directed around to the Old Narthex entrance.
- Open or close the side windows if necessary for the worshipers’ comfort.
- The attendance count should be taken (on the attendance record in drawer) after the sermon and recorded on a count slip which is placed in the offering plate or brought to the vestry.
During Announcements
- One greeter will walk over to the Welcome Table at the beginning the announcements. Greeter will stay at the Welcome Table for 10-15 minutes after the service.
After the Service
- The Greeter who went to the Welcome Table stays there to welcome new visitors, thank people for attending, and answer any directional questions e.g. restroom and Agape.
- One Greeter takes any contributions from each alms basin to the Vestry and puts it in a canvas bag (from top drawer) and places the bag in the Aumbry box on top of the Vestry counter, right corner. Place the attendance count slip on the Register of Church Services Book in the Vestry.
- Greeters should do a sweep for bulletins left on the pews. They should close the Old Narthex doors and the pairs of New Narthex doors on the street side and leading to the labyrinth steps.
Thank you for your ministry!
