At next Monday’s meeting, the Palo Alto City Council will consider establishing a safe parking area for unsheltered individuals living in cars or RVs. The site being considered is detailed in the attached staff report and represents a pilot program that could pave the way for additional options, including use of parking lots at Palo Alto churches that can provide necessary facilities. Please consider sending a message to the City Council as a member of a Palo Alto church, a resident of Palo Alto, or both if it applies, encouraging them to approve this important step in expanding services to our unsheltered neighbors.
City staff and County Supervisor Joe Simitian’s offices are enthusiastic and the site selected seems ideal for such an undertaking. In addition, the agency – Lots of Love – selected to oversee the safe parking site is well-qualified and is successfully overseeing similar programs in Mountain View.
