Food Closet Needs and Volunteer Opportunities:

This week’s donations requests are the same as last weeks – so let’s highlight the Food Closet’s need for volunteers. During the Covid lock down period – though the Food Closet was exempted from closing and has used strict safety protocols this whole time – several of the volunteers did not feel safe continuing. Some of those have not returned after the vaccines were available.  This has created some shift shortfalls and puts extra pressure on the volunteer managers. Considering this there is a list below of the shifts available to be filled. Although these are work week hours, which excludes many people, retired persons and students have long been the core of the shift workers. Most of the students also were getting community service credits from their schools – on top of the feel good from volunteering. If you or someone you know might be interested, please contact the below-noted volunteer managers.

Volunteer Opportunities:
The Food Closet, 425 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto, is seeking volunteers for various 2-3 hour shifts. These are the days to be filled:

Monday 10 – 12 noon;
Wednesday 10 – 12 noon;
Thursday both morning and afternoon shifts
Friday – 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.

Please contact (names are linked to emails):
Charlotte at (408) 591-7539 for the M, W and Thursday shifts.
Shirley at (650)704-9813 for the Friday shift. Best to text or telephone, please.

Drop off donations at the Food Closet. The Diocese allows food pantries to remain open during Covid. All Saints Food Closet is taking precautions to protect staff, volunteers, customers and donors using a protocol from Second Harvest, the main Food Closet donor. The address and hours are: 425 Hamilton Avenue, Palo Alto – M, T, W, F: 9 am-2:30 pm Thursday: 9 am to 6:30 pm. Access via the blue side door that opens onto Hamilton Street. Please call ahead – (650) 325-3663 to let them know you are coming. Please do not drop off food after hours – it brings up a variety of concerns as people apparently congregate unsafely after hours to go through the food.

Donating by Check: You can also donate by check. Check donations will be used to purchase needed shortfall items. Please write a check to the Downtown Streets Team, and write in the memo line “For Food Closet”. Checks can be mailed to:
