Children’s Chapel – Jesus teaches us to love one another

Children and Parents,

As we continue to shelter in place, here’s a reflection for you to use at home, based on the Gospel for this Sunday.

Lesson: Love One Another
Scriptures: John 14:15-21

As Jesus prepared to say goodbye to his friends, he reminded them to obey all that he had taught them. Jesus’s greatest commandment to his disciples — and to us — is that we love one another. Jesus said the greatest commandment this way, “Love God with your whole heart, and with your whole mind. With your eyes, your ears, your hands, and your feet. And always love other people just like you love and take care of yourself.”

Without love, the world can become a hard and lonely place. Jesus has shown us the way to love, by showing kindness to people, praying for them, feeding them, forgiving them, and comforting them when they’re sad. If we love Jesus, then we can share his love with the people around us. Our friends, our families, our classmates, and our neighbors. It’s not always easy to love, but Jesus has promised that he will not abandon us to love all alone. He will be in our hearts, and he’ll help us.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Where have you seen people loving each other this past week? What have they said or done to show love?
  2. What are some ways you can show love to the people around you?
  3. What do you think it means to love other people just like we love ourselves?
