Celebrating Rev. Matt’s Retirement

This past weekend’s events were full of love and appreciation for Rev. Matt McDermott for his 26 years of ministry at St. Mark’s. His last Sunday as rector was a bittersweet time for everyone, joyful for Matt to embrace retirement and a new chapter; sad to no longer have him and his family here with us. Saturday was a rousing barbeque with friends, bike buddies, and parishioners from many decades, featuring wonderful music from Randy Smith’s band and Rev. Matt’s band – including an exuberant “I Feel Good!” rendition from Rev. Matt. On Sunday the community filled every pew to be with Rev. Matt, who preached “the grace in this community is like a ripple in the water and the ripple will continue.” Indeed it shall. All gathered to lay hands and bless Rev. Matt and his family on their new path, with tears, and laughter, and full and prayerful hearts. From this day forward, all the ground between us will be sacred ground.
