The Adult Education Commission encourages community conversations of two books in this Easter season. Please order one or both and join us in reading: American Harvest – God, Country and Farming in the Heartland by Marie Mutsuki Mockett, and Love is the Way – Holding onto Hope in Troubling Times by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry.
Maria Mutsuki Mockett will join us for our Forum on April 25th at 11:15am. Our conversation with her will focus on bridging the religious, political and racial divides in our country. In subsequent forums we will explore some of the book’s themes in more detail. Discussions of Love is the Way will also be scheduled in this season of promise offering hope and new understanding.
“American Harvest is an extraordinary evocation of the land and a thoughtful exploration of ingrained beliefs, from evangelical skepticism of evolution to cosmopolitan assumptions about food production and farming. With exquisite lyricism and humanity, this astonishing book attempts to reconcile competing versions of our national story.”
The Zoom link for this event will be included in the weekly Zoom email.
From his own experiences, Bishop Curry demonstrates again and again how love can overcome poverty, racism, injustice, violence, and every other obstacle in its path. You need deep reservoirs of hope and resilience, an uncommon common wisdom, a belief in human dignity, and a practice of nonviolence.
