About Our Diocese

The word Episcopal comes from the Greek word which means “bishop.” Our church is led by bishops, who serve as the heads of dioceses, our regional organizing body. St. Mark’s is located in the Diocese of California, and our bishop is the Rt. Rev. Marc Andrus. All the dioceses of the Episcopal Church are part of the national church, whose offices are located in New York City. The head of the national church is a bishop, elected every 9 years.
